Qirong Liang


Mezzo-soprano Qirong Liang is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Performance at Louisiana State University, where her upcoming engagements include performing the role of Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel in 2026. She recently completed her study at Rice University, where she appeared as the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Susanna in The Ghosts of Versailles. Additionally, she recently performed as Snake and Sheep in The Big Swim, a co-production between Houston Grand Opera and Asia Society Texas.

In 2024, Ms. Liang was named a National Semifinalist in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition after winning both the Upper-Midwest Region and the Iowa District. She is also a first-prize winner of the Korea–China International Vocal Competition and the National Student Auditions (Michigan Chapter), and she received the Best Mezzo Soprano Award at the Paolo Coni International Voice Competition.

Her recent concert performances include the 2024 Chinese Young Artists Showcase at Carnegie Hall and a concert at the Musée Guimet in Paris, celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. An active participant in prestigious summer programs, she was a Fellow at the Music Academy of the West’s Lehrer Vocal Institute in the summer of 2025, where she studied with John Churchwell and worked with renowned artists including Sasha Cooke, Howard Watkins, and Bill Schuman. She has also participated in the 2024 iSING Music Festival and was a Studio Artist at the 2023 Aspen Music Festival and School.

Her previous operatic credits include L’opinion publique in Orphée aux enfers and Charlotte in Werther at the University of Michigan. At the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, her roles included Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Jiao’s Mother in The Wilderness, and Fan-Yi in Thunderstorm.
